Stratford Upon Avon Literary Festival

Shakespeare was born on April 23rd 1564 and died on April 23rd 1616. Every year, Stratford upon Avon celebrates the bard on the Saturday nearest his birthday with a procession through the town of dignitaries, schoolchildren, musicians and various other organisations and groups. They are often in costume and carry banners and flowers.

Details of this year’s celebrations are below:

Two Shakespeare plays open at the RSC in mid April.  Freema Agyeman and Nick Blood lead as Beatrice and Benedick in the ever popular Much Ado about Nothing while Simon Russell Beale takes the title role in the less frequently performed Titus Andronicus.

Stratford’s Literary Festival runs from May 8 - 11 this year.

Speakers include Alison Steadman, Jacqueline Wilson, Jeremy Vine, Juliet Stevenson, Charlie Higson and many other authors.
